    German WWI Sword

Hi, from west coast of USA

I am not a collector, know nothing about swords
I got this sword that my father had when he died in 1977 and sword was not new then

On other side there is a small piece that is on like a hinge to protect fingers ?
Grip of handle is like bakelight ?
About 37 inches long end to end
The edge is not sharp like a knife, blunt ?
Blade looks real good, bit of pitting

Internet search seems is a cavalry officer's saber from the German state of Bavaria.

It dates to sometime around WWI, and the words on the blade say "In Treue Fest,"
which is the Bavarian motto and means "In Steadfast Loyalty."
End near handle of 1 side shown below says CF

Any more history for this and is it worth selling ?

    Thanks

More info from the logo it is CE, not CF and It's two squirrels, back to back, and the company is Carl Eickhorn, one of the larger sword makers between the 1860s and 1940s

    Hi
I think you have answered all your own answerable questions except value; I suspect it would not make more than $200 at auction (in the UK).
A collector turned dealer purely so he can experience more swords!

Hopefully where fellow collectors can find more interesting / better researched swords.
