Question Sword from Napoleon's army. Help needed identifying it and estimating its value.

    Hello there!

I am in need of your expertise. I happen to know the history of this sword but I don't know who could have been its former owner.

My ancestor, Domingo de Caralt, was an officer of the Spanish Army back and he participated in the Peninsular War (1808-1814). I have been told that there was a tradition that when you killed someone important, you had to take his sword with you. That's how this sword has come to our hands. After the war, Domingo de Caralt was awarded with the status of Count of Caralt. There is a book about my ancestor if you are interested [URL="http://books.google.es/books/about/Domingo_de_Caralt.html?id=Yg0UcgAACAAJ&redir_esc=y "].

I have spent a lot of time trying to find a sword like mine on the Internet and I have had not luck at all. I would like to know if this was the sword of an officer or anything else you could point out. And I would also be interested in an estimation of its value. I understand that it might not be the best place to ask for its value, since maybe you, as collectors, would like to have it for a low price, but I am totally not selling it anytime soon, so I hope this let's you be as objective as possible!

I GREATLY appreaciate your help and expertise!

Here are the pictures of my sword. I apologize for the poor quality. If you need more pictures of it please don't hesitate to ask!

    Hi
I really do not know how you think someone might be able to tell you the hjistory of your particular sword. If you have provenance, then you know, or hopefully know. If the sword is not unusual (this one looks like a fairly normal diplomatic sword, but I am not expert on them), what can anyone say? I do not think that the original owner was necessarily in the armed forces or that important.
    Sorry
    Mark

Thanks for answering, Mark. I apologize for being so naive. I am obviously not even an amateur in antique swords, and I didn't know what you experts were capable of knowing about a particular sword.

I apologize if you felt insulted in any way. I kind of wanted to know its price ^^'

Am not insulted. Am no expert on this kind of sword. I may be wrong.
