hi mark, re the british heavy sword, I have seen a few of these around and given their history it was an ok item, I think with its auction fees on top it came in at just over 975 pounds.adealer will want around 1100 pounds for it and it will sale at that, however i was lucky and able to get a nice H/C sword for 1100 including fees at christees this year. I am not interested in much outside the 1790 to 1815 time frame so did not look at the other lots with much interest, I do however have a room full of swords in well used condition which I just don,t wish to add to. I am happy you could pick up so many items in one sale, I on the other hand made the mistake of going to wallis and wallis god knows why, their list did not hold much hope and the items even less. the only high light of the day was a nice pub meal in the snowdrop pub. michael

    Christies and Bonhams

I forgot to register for Christies auction the other day an missed out on some good Japanese WW2 swords that went below what they should have. Still waiting for my invoice from Bonhams (sent two requests already) which normally is a prelude for some lot being a problem; normally this means the auction house did not sell at the reserve and the seller is not happy, and then the buyer gets C&B about the lot having been damaged (last time this happened to me I caught the auction house out by saying that I wanted to inspect it).

Finally got my invoice and, in fact, an additional item / lot has appeared on it, a beaded and ribbed F-S fighting knife. So, I suspect there was a problem with the buyer on the day of that lot and it reverted to the under-bidder.
