Paul Beighton Auctions had a fair number of obvious reproductions in their September 4th 2011 auction. One, I am sure is a fake / repro, I have not seen before and sold for £850 (plus premium / commission and tax of course). I am interested in Polish / Hungarian sabres of this era, as I think many people are, and I could not find the markings on the blade in any of my reference books. I also believe the sabre looks brand new, or thereabouts. The closest I could find to the stamped markings is the trident of Edward Wusthof (1814-1999), but it is not that, I am sure. And the 31 inch blade sure seems a short one for that era of sabre.

It was described as "An antique sword, possibly Hungarian. With leather blade with punch marks, blade 31"."

I would be grateful for anyone who can tell me whether I was wrong to decide not to bid or not.
